Odaiko technique (Beg/Int)
This workshop focuses on both using the whole body to power while staying grounded, as well as the mechanics of the strike itself. A lot of attention is paid to the lower body, both to generate power and to mitigate tension that can hamper the upper body. Because the odaiko is a very personal instrument, instead of telling you how to play, I’ll give you options so you can discover what works best for you. I’ll also show you the similarities and differences between the odaiko and betta strike, how to keep your playing steady, and even touch on the mindset and approaches to playing on odaiko for an audience.
